Movie Poster Promo

Hi everyone! Recently our GT class started a new project where we are creating a movie trailer and a movie poster to go along with it. Our title is Snoopy George, its about a guinea pig (named George) that escapes from home and goes on an amazing adventure. Some of our main characters are George and the evil people that capture George while he is on his adventure.  In our movie George leaves his home and finds a hole and escapes to go on adventure. In the beginning when he finds him self exploring the world he has a lot of fun but then starts running into problems when he is trying to find is way back home but he gets captured too! So thats all I can say about our movie and what our poster is gonna have in it.

My movie poster that I've created includes big, bright, and bold text saying "Snoopy George". I also did some research on what a movie poster looks like so I can get a good idea of what I am creating. In my poster I also have movie critiques from magazines like rolling stone, time... so it would seem more professional. The movie poster will also include the names of the people in the movie trailer, rating, where it was made ect.  I am still not finished with it but I'm sure it will turn out great because I am putting in a lot of hard work into it.

With all they layers and filters that I am putting into my poster its really making the text pop out. Also my poster image is very eye catching and some what attention grabbing to who ever is looking at my poster. I put effects called the ocean ripple, and a radial blur making the back round and George pop out. Then I made a cut out of just George so the audience can see clearly what the main thing this poster is about, George. Hope you guys enjoy this upcoming trailer of Snoopy George!

Proactive or Procrastination?

I wanna be proactive but I've been procrastinating because I don't want to critique my Visual Poem because I don't really like it... As Im writing this our class is critiquing my video so I am trying to hide my face. WOO! The video finished but they are playing it again *hides face*. Ok now its done since that is over with Im gonna start being proactive. Being proactive can also make you happy and have no stress hanging over you. If you choose to be a procrastinator in life you'll get nothing done and you would just be dwelling on little things that probably don't really matter so my advice to those reading this is to be more proactive in life so you are living life to its fullest.

Well I spend about 7 hours in school every week day and after school from the time I get home to the time I go to bed 1-3 hours are spent on the internet watching Netflix.... yes I know what your thinking about, thats not so healthy for a 12 year old girl. It depends what day of the week it is, if its monday or friday I probably spend only 1 1/2 hours on the internet. Most of the things that I do on the internet is go on Instagram, Ask fm, Netflix, Vine and I text my friends. I realized this isn't the best thing to do for my age and I should spend more time doing my school work so I can get an A in every class.

Some things that I would change about my work habits is trying to use my time more wisely on my work. I say this because recently I just got a B in this class (GT) and its my first B that I got this year so Im not really happy about it and I just got a C in english Im not really sure why though and I still didn't show my parents my report card because I'm scared but at least its only mid quarter grades. I think the reason why Im not  doing as good as I did in quarter 1 is because currently I'm addicted to Netflix and watching the series Walking dead, American Horror Story, and The100. I think Ive been spending more time watching after school and doing my after school sports more than I have been doing my homework. Good thing Im done with the series of shows now I can and will concentrate on my work.

Finished News Story

A while ago our team Talia, Ashley, Meleana and I finished our profile story project on Mrs. Julia Sanderl.  We decided to do our project on Mrs. Sanderl because Talia and I really love her class because its really fun and interesting and Meleana and Ashley said that it also sounded fun to do. Some people that contributed to our story is Gabriela Bryan, Michael Amoyo and of course Mrs. Sanderl.

Our final project turned out really great! We got voted as the top three stories in our class and got submitted to Hiki No. Even though our story didn't go on air I really think we did pretty good there wasn't any big mistakes just a few minor ones. After I saw the story that my team and I created I was really impressed that 2 seventh graders and 2 sixth graders had created such an awesome video. I think that we did awesome because we all worked together and communicated very well. I am very happy with the finished cut.

I agree with the results my classmates put for the story my team and I made. The story wasn't perfect but it was pretty good. I think that the critiques were very helpful for our story. All of the critiques let the team know some improvements we could've made. This was a really fun experience to start off the year and to learn how to work as a team with some new people.

My Visual Poem

Hi everyone! Recently our class just finished our Visual Poem project and the purpose of it was to write a poem about us that expresses us and then film and take pics if it. My poem is about music and my love for it. The visuals that I used for this is myself playing the piano and pictures of my sheet music that I use.  The visuals relate to what Im saying when I recite my poem because I talk about music and hands touching the keyboard and thats what you see.

I guess I like my project but I used my moms camera to film all the b-roll and there is no way to focus it so my b-roll is pretty blurry. Also I kinda rushed on this project so Im not that happy about it. Next time I'll check out one of Mr. Sanderls cameras so I have better quality imagery and be aware of how much time I have to finish this project. Overall I guess Im pretty satisfied waith the result of my project.

All though the b-roll wasn't that good I still tried to make it look interesting by putting lots of different and cool effects. I used the crop tool, Ken Burnz effect, transformation tool, text layovers, and color correct which helped with the problem a bit. The Ken Burnz effect made the pictures that I used in my project more interesting to look at because it would pan across the image and zoom in and out of it. The transformation and crop tool made the image either just show a certain part of it or transform it into a different way to look at that pic or video. The color correction made the imagery more eye popping.

Real World Report

India may achieve its goal of sending a spacecraft into Mars which was built with homegrown technology for what they say " a remarkably low price of $75 million." They call it the Mars Orbiter Mission aka "MOM". India plans on joining the US, European Space Agency and the former Soviet Union in the elite club of Martian explorers .The MOM takes position on Wednesday as planned.

They say the next couple hours will be crucial as the Indian Space and Research Organisation sends a bunch of commands to position the spacecraft in its specific orbit around Mars. Reaching Mars orbit would be a huge accomplishment for India's Space program, showing the world India is capable of complex missions and also be a launching pd for commercial purposes, navigational and research satellites.

India did complete this mission of going to Mars (the red planet). With the sucess of MOM, India is ow the very first country to go to Mars in the very first try. The Eurepean, American, and Russian probes have managed to land or orbit on the planet, but after several attemts. The first Chinese mission to Mars failed, called the Yinghou-1, in 2011. In 1998 the Japenese mission ran out of fuel and is now lost.

I think this issue is a good thing because living in america (Hawaii) is a paradise for our family and I heard that India is a more of a poor country than the US. Since they accomplished this mission they probably made some money and the country is now a little more noticible becasue people are reralizing that India is a really smart country and shouldnt be ignored. We should care because maybe India can join with our country for future missions and purposes and we couild become a smarter country. Also now part of the world is a little more succesful so its good that the world s becoming a better and smarter place.

Lessons Learned

  • Describe: most interesting part of your project
  • Explain: biggest roadblock your team handled
  • Discuss: most valuable part of filmmaking process
  • Upload: 1-2 original images to add visual interest

Hi guys I just wanted to share about whats kind of happening currently with my team Ashley Meleana and Talia. Right now we are working on getting all of our interviews transcribed on a different document that we made in google drive. I know we were supposed to transcribe it on the writing tools document that Mr. Sanderl shared with us but we wanted to make sure we had a copy of it and on the document it just looked more clearer and organized to us so when were done transcribing it on the document we'll copy and paste it into the Writing tools document. The most interesting thing so far on this Hiki No project is probably what happens in the interviews when the camera is on and when we sometimes goof off. This is actually pretty interesting because we were filming a 6th grader and that student was really fun to work with and funny. Also when Talia and I got to be excused from 3rd period to film some b-roll off some really funny "cute" 8th grade boys.

Our team is doing pretty good but one of the biggest problems that we've ran into is getting all 3 interviews transcribed. We decided to make our own document because we wanted too organize it a different way and make sure we had a copy of  I guess. At the end when we had to move into the writing tools document that Mr. Sanderl gave us the font and size that we used was wrong so it ended up screwing up the whole document. At the end we got it back to normal with Mr. Sanderl's help and we also got a 4/4 (an A).

In my opinion the most valuable part of filmmaking progress is staying calm and not overreacting about not finishing while staying aware you have a due date and you need to get it finished. If you think about it, it actually kind of is the most difficult part because if you have a technical problem you could always ask one of your classmates, your teacher, or just look it up on the internet. But if you overreact or fight with your teammates and start having a problem you kind of  have to deal with it on your own because its a more mental problem.

Hiki No Behind the Scenes

So far in GT we recently just started a new project, either a New story or a profile story. Our team Talia Meleana Ashley and I choose to do a Profile story on Mrs. Sanderl. A profile is usually a story on someone specific about them self usually their job/passion. So far we filmed all the b-roll but were really behind in transcribing them all. Were still not done with the main interview on Mrs. Sanderl, were about 1/3 done transcribing it and not even close to done editing it. We decided to interview Gabriela and Michael two students in our Art class.

When the camera is not rolling were usually just preparing for when the camera is rolling or sometimes trying to take pics or just playing around. Our team has already had lots of fun doing our project just interviewing and filling out pitch sheets. It turns out interviewing 6th graders is a big challenge but really funny. Some things that our team can do to make our project better is using our time a little more better and making sure were prepared for filming and stuff. Overall the mistakes and screw ups that we made we all still had fun and got some really good work done.

The Experiment

I think the reason why Mr. Sanderl had us do the Photoshop experiment to see what we know so far and how we would so without his help and on our own when most people never actually used Photoshop in their life.  Another reason why I think we did this experiment was to get to know the app and play around with all the tools and brushes and paint electronically. Since I was in GT last year and most of the other 7th graders in our class was too we already kind of had an idea about Photoshop and how to use some of it but we ended up still learning new things about the app. There was so many new things for us to learn in the experiment.

Back to School

My favorite moment so far in 7th grade at Kapa'a Middle School is Art Class with Mrs. Sanderl. This is my favorite moment because its our teacher makes it really fun and we have more freedom I guess I can say in that class. Another one of my favorite moments here at school is playing and eating with my friends in the home ec room. These are my favorite moments because Art doesn't feel like school it seems like one of the things I would do for fun during summer. Hanging out with my friends are also fun because that's when My friend Sydney and I get to play spy and say hello to the new six graders HAHAHA.

One of my biggest challenges here in school is passing English with a A or B because we have these kind of hard vocab tests where we have to write, spell, and put the definition of the word. The last time I took my vocab test I got a C so I checked my work and found out my teacher corrected some of it wrong so she changed it to a B. Also during English I almost got a zero on my test because my English teacher miss placed my work into a her 6th period 8th grade class. I will try hard to pass by getting my work in on time and making sure my work will be placed correctly.

Some things I will do to be successful this year is try my hardest and complete all my work with the highest quality that I can do. I will also be nice to my teachers and try show no attitude. I know I will have a successful year if I do these things and more. Everyone have a great year :)

Metamorphosis Animation

P3T6 Metamorphosis from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.

Recently our Gt class just finished our Animation/Metamorphosis project where we had to come up with a story and tell it through animation and some voice-overs and music. I think this was one of our hardest projects to put together because it wasn't as organized as our other projects, we had more pictures to organize and lots of different scenes to make. It was almost like making movie except shorter and instead of recording we had to take hundreds of pictures. My team mates on this project were Talia, Maddie, and Kasiah.

My teams project was about a Greek goddess (Artemis) who gets attacked by the titans and turns into a helpless puppy, where she goes on all these crazy adventures and runs into many conflicts on the way trying to get to the Oracle of Delphi to turn her back into herself. The types of animations we used was Clay-mation, Styks, and Stop motion animations. Our focus statement was Titans transform Goddess and I thought that our critique results was pretty good, we got the 2nd most of votes (6) in our class.

Words of Wisdom

Our teams project was to get Words of Wisdom from someone that we know and older than and to make a Profile Story out of it. We did Mr. Relacion, a 7th grade Language Arts teacher at Kapa'a Middle School. We had some trouble completing the project we didn't quite finish the project on time and when we went to film some b-roll (visually show whats happening in an interview), a lot of it wasn't focused. We had to re film our voice-overs(the person narrating the story) and we had to film more b-roll. But in the end we (Keegan  and Kuumomi and I) had a great Words of Wisdom project. Mr. Relacion's Words of Wisdom are important because it teaches us not to rush through life.

Five Tips For…

My team mates and I chose "5 tips for dealing with brothers" because we all thought it was a pretty good idea and the best one out of all the things that we came up with because a lot of siblings (sister) kinda have this problem. We had a minor conflict with our main subject, everyone in our team are girls and we were doing it about dealing with brothers so one of us had to dress up like a boy and act as the brother of someone else. Although we had a problem I think our team had the most fun making our video. My team mates were Loren and Arianna.

I think that our 5 tips video is pretty good but what we could've done better was to make some of our shots have the setting more brighter so it would focus on the main person and also we had some camera movements. We could've try being more creative with out camera angles and composition too. I thought having a girl playing a brother was really cool so in a different way we were being creative in out own way.

Practice Profile Story

Before we did our real "Words of Wisdom" project we did a practice video so we knew what to do when we have to do the real thing. My teams practice story was about volleyball with Keegan and Kuumomi. I was the main subject on this practice story because I play on a volleyball team and our story was on volleyball. I think we could've filmed better b-roll because a lot of it was blurry and un focused. I think the overall story of it was pretty good.

Profile Project Progress

Recently now my team and I are working on a Words of Wisdom project where we interview someone older than us that can share some words of wisdom. We are interviewing Mr. Relacion a 7th grade English teacher at Kapaa Middle School. We filmed during school for the interview, b-roll, and voiceovers. We are doing this project because we wanted to show everyone what it takes to be an awesome teacher like Mr. Relacion.

We filmed b-roll for our project to visually show what Mr. Relacion does. B-roll is used to hide the narration or interview cuts and to visually show or explain what the person being interviewed is talking about. Also B-roll is a way of easily showing what their talking about so the audience can relate to the story better. Also for our project we had one person narrate the story so we had to film and record voiceovers. Voice overs introduce the person and tell part of the story in the beginning, middle, and end.

I think our team could of worked better by splitting up the work more evenly and also taking turns doing each job. Keegan Kessler Kuumomi Thompson are my partners for this project and over all I think we work pretty good together. Telling by the critique above I think we should work more on the visuals of the story the most and try make the audio, story, and quality a little better.

Our team can improve from good to great by filming more B-roll and making sure it in focus so its clear. Also we could film better voice overs because the voice overs I did weren't clear enough. In the end I believe our team will have a really great story to share and project.

Composition Techniques

The main four composition techniques are Rule of thirds, Framing, Unusual Angles, and Leading Lines. Rule of thirds is when you have your main subject on One third of your shot to have a more interesting view of your subject. Framing is when you frame your main subject to draw more attention to it and it also blocks off other parts of image with some of the scene. An unusual angle speaks for itself, its basically a shot with a more interesting angle to draw more attention. Leading Lines are when there are lines leading to the main subject. Loren Weiner Arianna White

Three Shot Sequences

In Kapa'a Middle school GT program we learned about sequencing . Sequencing is a visual way of showing an action with three shot types. Each shot type has interesting angles and perspectives. Also each shot type must relate to same thing as the the other two shots so the sequence makes sense. My video shows the action of drinking water, I did this with my partners Loren Weiner Arianna White

Spherical Panoramas

These are my 2 examples of Spherical Panoramas that I made in my GT class. I first learned about what Spherical meant so I used Spherical. hyperlink to help. I used Photoshop on the computer, adobe photoshop, digital cameras, and also cameraw to edit the photos. I took pictures with a 15-20% overlap each photo and then put the photos into a 360 degree circle.

Polar Panoramas

These are my Two finished Polar Panoramas that I created in G.T. First I had to learn about the process of making a Polar Panorama with using Steps to a Polar Panorama. Then I chose a good location to take my pictures with a 10-15% overlap each photo. I went into photoshop and merged all my photos together and resized the merged photos into a square image. The next thing I did was rotate the image 180 degrees and then applied the Polar coordinates.

After creating my Polar Panorama world I learned about the Quick Selection Tool . With a picture of myself I used the quick selection tool to cut out the back round. I refined the edges to and resized the cut out of me so it would fit into my world. I put the layer into my world and then added a shadow to make it look more realistic and interesting.

Final Photomontages

These are my two finished photomontages that I created my inspiration of DAVID HOCKNEY. I made them in my GT class and learned how to do it from our teacher Mr. Sanderl. We took multiple photos of something like above you can see I chose a tree and then edited it in photoshop to make our photo look more creative.

Practice story Refelection

For the past couple of days we've been working on an interview project with our team. We had interview one of our team members abut something, like what out team did was "Lani plays Volleyball". We filmed some B-roll of us playing volleyball, and then record one of us narrating it all. Then we edited it all in  Final Cut Pro. My team included Keegan Kessler and Kuumomi Thompson and I. Keegan Kessler Kuumomi Thompson

Our team had some challenges that we faced, we sometimes didn't agree on somethings. This project teaches us how to work as a team which was a little difficult for our team. We also got to learn how to do our project in very little time with all the stress that we had on us to get this project done. With all the commotion going on we all still did a pretty good job on our project.

I think that some things that our team could of worked on better next time is working better as a team. But in the end we got around that corner and our project turned out good. I hope to do another project like this with my team in the future.

Magazine Cover

This is my finished Magazine Cover that I created in the Fall at Kapa'a Middle School GT class. I used digital cameras and Photoshop to create this Magazine Cover. In photoshop that is where I designed my magazine. I also had to come up with a color scheme with Color Scheme Designer.
